ShortStoriesBooknook.com is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities and compliance with web accessibility laws and policies, including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”).   

ShortStoriesBooknook.com continues to make changes to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards. 

To educate ourselves on accessibility, we attend accessibility conferences to ensure we are informed on the best practices to help us create products that are easily accessible, and we continue to learn how to comply with web accessibility laws and policies.  

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.

This site aims to adhere to level AA of the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, which state the following:   

  • Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.

  • User interface components and navigation must be operable.

  • Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable.

  • Content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies. 

Visitors who do not have disabilities can also benefit from the changes implemented on this site to provide a better user experience. As part of our efforts to achieve WCAG 2.0 AA compliance, we have implemented the following on our site:

  • Use proper title tags on each page section to help you navigate pages.

  • Use detailed alternative text so you can hear descriptions of photos through your screen reader.

  • Properly name hyperlinks to their designation based on anchor text. 

  • Include closed captioning or a transcript for each video. Note: Embedded YouTube videos can add captions as provided by YouTube.

  • Use of color contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 and color palette combinations that fall within the range of Section 508-compliant foreground/background color contrast ratios.

  • Information required to understand and operate content does not rely on shape, size, or color.

  • Input fields contain metadata identifying their purpose so assistive technologies can apply familiar labels next to fields.

  • No elements on this site flash more than three times within one second.

  • Include transcripts for current audio or future audio clips.

  • All functionality is operable through a keyboard and other input devices.
